In Lake Titicaca you can visit the communities that live in the Uros, 20 minutes from the city of Puno in the middle of the lake, Its inhabitants have built them from large blocks of reeds joined and superimposed that are replaced from time to time so that these small islands remain afloat. About 4 to 6 families can live on each island.

According to history, the inhabitants of the Uros were part of the population of Puno that fled from the Spanish yoke to not work as slaves in the mines, currently these inhabitants live from fishing and exchange or barter and move in artisan rafts made of totora. called “Caballitos de Totora” that in the bow has a head with a zoomorphic shape made with the totora similar to the head of a dragon that attracted a lot of attention.

The tour of Lake Titicaca will also take you to the Island of Taquile that is located further in the lake, it is about 35 km (22 miles) from Puno. It is a very beautiful small island that has a well-structured population of about 2200 inhabitants who live in harmony, on this island you will see some small pre-Inca ruins. Here the tour will stop for lunch and for you to buy some handicrafts made by the inhabitants themselves.
