Nature is an outstanding artist who created the Rainbow Mountain of Palcoyo over the years so that today you can enjoy it on this one day tour. The colors of this mountain are the geological product of marine, lake and river sediments that accumulated and that today are exposed by wind erosion.
Appreciating its colors in greater magnitude depends a lot on the time in which this tourist attraction is visited, so at times when the sky is cloudy or it rains, the colors can be seen more opaque, but if the sun illuminates strongly the colors look very alive, even with good or bad weather that is often so unpredictable, there is much more to know on the way to the mountain.
On the way to the rainbow mountain of Palcoyo there is much to see, you will have the opportunity to appreciate some Peruvian camelids such as llamas, vicuñas, guanacos and alpacas grazing freely or you could be lucky enough to see the majestic Peruvian condor with white collar crossing the mountain skies or maybe some puna of the Andes peeking out there.
One day before the walk, your guide meets with you to give you some instructions, tell you what to bring to the walk and resolve any doubts you may have.
The day of the walk starts between 4:30 AM to 6:30 AM when the guide picks you up from your hotel in Cusco to go by car for about 3 hours passing through the communities of Checacupe and Pitumarca, then you will have breakfast and then you will continue hiking for approximately an hour and a half until you reach the mountain of Palcoyo where you will be at 4900 meters (16,000 feet) above sea level, there you will have time to explore and take all the photos to remember your stay in the Rainbow Mountain, then comes the walk back, later you will have a lunch that can be a picnic or box lunch depending on the number of people that accompany the group, after lunch you will be in Cusco back between 5:00 PM 6:00 P.M.
