Overview

There is no better way to travel by train and enjoy the most beautiful views of the Sacred Valley than traveling on the Vistadome train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes town.

The name of this train perfectly sums up its internal structure as it has side windows so wide that they even curve and almost join the roof windows, making it seem that you are in a dome that allows you to see the valley in all its splendor or better yet, it will seem that you are part of this landscape.

Being inside the train you will not need to open the windows because it has built-in heating and air conditioning that is activated according to the temperature of the day. You will also travel very comfortable thanks to its soft leather seats.

The trip from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes will take you an hour and a half at any of the times you choose to travel and you can do it from very early to very late at night. Depending on the time you arrive, you can visit Machu Picchu the same day or take a break at the hotel of your choice and visit Machu Picchu the next day.

If you stay in a hotel in Urubamba, the trip by car to the Ollantaytambo train station takes 30 minutes, so you must leave one hour in advance thus you can be 30 minutes before at the train station.

FAQs

IMPORTANT TO KNOW
- On the train you will not be able to carry your full luggage, they only allow you to carry up to a maximum of 5 kilos (11 pounds), in a backpack or hand luggage that should not exceed 157 centimeters (62 inches) in height, length and width, however the staff on board will not actually check the weight of your suitcase so you are asked to be honest when boarding.
- Another option would be to leave your luggage in the storage of the Ollantaytambo Station if you initially arrived with all your luggage to the valley. The hours available are: Monday to Sunday 07:00 AM to 7:00 PM (ask for the conditions of this service).
- If you brought a lot of luggage on your trip, you can leave it in the storage of your hotel in Cusco (if you left from there on the Sacred Valley tour). The hotel staff will keep it for you so you can pick it up on your return. However, if you still want to carry all your luggage, the train may accept it as an "exception" upon special request and subject to space availability. (ask only if necessary to know the conditions).
- Do not forget, for prevention, to be 30 minutes before the departure of the train with your ticket in hand.
- Due to the current situation for COVID-19, the snack delivery services and the on-board sales service (of the Expedition and Vistadome trains) and the fashion show and artistic representation of the typical dance "Saqra" (of the trains Vistadome) are suspended during trips in 2021.
- 2021 schedules may vary due to the situation with COVID-19 (check with your trip planner)
