Overview

From the top of the Machu Picchu Mountain whose meaning is “Old Mountain” you have a view of part of the impressive Andes, this mountain range that gather together a number of mountains considered by the Incas as sacred called “Apus” or Spirits of the mountains. To visit this mountain you must be physically prepared thus you can climb its more than 1600 steps. This mountain has an altitude of 3082 meters above sea level (10 111 feet) and as you are going up to the top you can already see the citadel of Machu Pichu. It is not recommended for children under 12 or people over 60 (depending on their physical condition).

The road that leads to the Machu Picchu Mountain was originally built by the Inca people and has now been restored due to the deterioration of the years and the climate.
From its top you will be able to see the snowy peaks of other mountains or “Apus” such as the summit of the snowy mountains of Salkantay, Tucarhuay, Verónica, the summit of Pumasillo (puma claw), the impressive canyon that forms the Vilcanota river with the mountain Putukusi, among other views.

The way up is steep and the time of going up and down to visit it is quite restricted, you can enter only between 7 and 11 AM and go down before 3 PM because by that time there should be no walkers on the trail.
