While you are walking you will have the most impressive panoramic views of the city of Arequipa and the volcanoes that accompany the Misti. This is a medium difficulty hike so it doesn’t require you to be an expert. During the trip you will be accompanied by a team that will take care of your food and your stay in the comfortable tents where you will spend the night, during the trip you will carry your own suitcase, you do not worry for the rest, everything is in the hands of experts.
El Misti with its unique snow-capped summit is a volcano that is currently inactive, however in 1985 activity was detected, only a few fumaroles were seen but they were not at all harmful to the nearby population. The top of the volcano reaches a height of 5825 meters (19 110 feet) so we suggest you acclimatize very well before making this hike to the top of Misti.
According to experts, the ancient eruptions of the Misti volcano contributed much to making the surrounding soils more fertile along with the rivers that run throughout the area, thus turning the city of Arequipa into a great valley.
Day 1
6:00 - 6:30 AM
Pick up from your hotel to go on a car trip of about 2 hours to the Aguada Blanca National Reserve to start the walk.
The walk will take you to the base camp of Monte Blanco in the afternoon where the tents will be set up and food will be prepared and then overnight there for leaving very early the next day to start the climb of the Misti Volcano. When you get the base camp, you will have reached an approximate height of 4750 meters (15 583 feet).
Day 2
5:00 - 5:30 AM
The ascent starts early, so that you can walk at your own pace since this journey will take you about 6 hours, when you reach the top you will approach the crater to be able to observe the activity of the volcano at that time and take your photos from the top of the Misti.
At the end of the explanations of your expert guide at the top of the volcano, you will begin the descent to the base of the camp where a car awaits you to return safely to the city of Arequipa.
