Overview

This magical tour takes you to the archaeological center of Tiahuanaco leaving at 7:00 AM. from the city of Puno towards the country of Bolivia that borders Peru just through this department. Take your precautions by bringing your passport and visa to enter Bolivia if necessary. You can process your Visa one day before in the city of Puno or process it from your country of origin. If you are only going to process it in Peru, you must bring with you: personal photo (passport size), air ticket, hotel reservation, copy of credit card and itinerary of your trip.

The first stop on this tour will be Inca Uyo, a place of fertility according to the stories of the ancient inhabitants, although scientists has not yet been able to define it. Then the tour will continue its journey to “Amaru Muru”, a word from the Aymara dialect that means “cut side” due to the diagonal shape of the rock formation where this portal of the sun was built. This place holds some legends that will surely be told by your tour guide. Your journey will continue to the Peruvian town of Pomata, this beautiful town that has one of the most impressive views of Lake Titicaca and the beautiful colonial church of “Santiago Apostol”.

The next stop will be the bordering city of Desaguadero to register your pass to Bolivia, there you must show your passport to continue your journey through the Bolivian part of the tour. When you finally arrive at Tiahuanaco you will have lunch and then continue with the excursion to the archaeological site.

The Tiahuanaco culture developed between 400 and 900 AD. This culture is known for its stone carving techniques that can be appreciated in the constructions that they left as a legacy, so you will be able to see during your tour the Puma Punku pyramid, the Akapana pyramid (where you can see busts that represent how this culture exhibited  the severed head of its enemies), but the stone carving technique can be better appreciated in the famous “Puerta del Sol” (sun gate). Once your tour of the vestiges left by this interesting culture is finished, you will return to the city of Puno being at your hotel at around 7:00 PM.
