Description

Refugio Amazonas is a lodge located in the middle of the Peruvian jungle about 4 hours by boat from the city of Puerto Maldonado. The perfect place to isolate yourself from the world.

The city of Puerto Maldonado is small but cozy, the airport is there, and from there your lodge guide will pick you up to take you to the lodge of your choice. The lodges are immersed in the vast Amazon jungle within the Tambopata National Reserve, very close to the Tambopata River. The trip from the city of Puerto Maldonado to the lodge is done by boat along the river. While you are sailing you can start to spot some animals such as river otters, alligators and already in the jungle, when going out to explore with your guide you will see colorful birds such as parrots and macaws of different species as well as mammals such as capybaras, monkeys, among others.

Refugio Amazonas is committed to ecological tourism, worrying about the environmental and social sustainability of the area where the lodge is located, working together with nearby communities and family associations so that they benefit from receptive tourism.

Refugio Amazonas is one of the most immersed and remote lodges in the jungle, it is located within the Tambopata National Reserve which is a protected area. This beautiful lodge extends over 200 hectares (500 acres) of land surrounded by lush tropical forest vegetation.

To ensure the sustainability of the area, Refugio Amazonas lodge has used local materials such as wood and bamboo for the construction of walls, straw made with palm leaves for the roofs and clays from the nearby soils for the elaboration of adobes, all used in the construction of its facilities without interfering with the environment and giving guests the opportunity to interact with nature.

The rooms at Refugio Amazonas are cozy and have a rustic style, all have one totally open wall that allows guests to interact with the jungle directly, through that wall, even gests have the opportunity to see some animals pass by in their natural habitat, maybe some birds or monkeys walking among the trees. Each room has a private bathroom with hot water and eco-friendly toiletries. The rooms have lamps that are lit with kerosene to illuminate the rooms in the evenings and the beds have mosquito nets to prevent mosquito bites. There are some rooms that do have electricity and free WiFi, but you must request it in advance at the time of your reservation.

The lodge’s dining room is spacious and has no walls, only thatched roof with long tables where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food served there has peruvian and international flavor and is made with local ingredients, both vegetables and fruits are washed and well disinfected before being prepared. If you are vegetarian there is no problem with this, their menus are adaptable, it is always good to indicate it in advance at the time of your reservation.

The lodge has common areas where you can rest and socialize with other guests, it even has a hammock area where you can lie down and breathe the fresh air of the jungle, it also has a spa where you can request a relaxing massage where the experts use natural aromatic oils. The trails near the lodge are duly marked so that you can explore the place on your own and return without inconvenience, likewise if you want to have a broader panorama of the surrounding jungle and take the most incredible photos you can go up to the lookout tower where you will be at a height of 30 meters (100 feet).

This lodge has a really complete program with excursions on foot and excursions by boat, kayaking in the nearby lakes as well as cultural activities for adults and children where they can see wild animals in their natural habitat (parrots, macaws, capybaras, otters of river, monkeys, etc).
