The monastery that today houses the Belmond Hotel Monasterio Cusco was seriously damaged in an earthquake in the 17th century, later in the 20th century, around 1950, the monastery once again witnessed another earthquake that left it in very bad condition, some years later at an auction the new owner, a hotel chain, restored it converting most of the cells (chambers) into rooms.

The hotel has several courtyards with cobbled stone floors, adorned with colorful gardens and surrounded by stone arched corridors. These patios are part of the common areas where you can get fresh air and hang out at their tables with seats that are scattered around. The corridors surrounding the courtyards are beautifully decorated with some colonial paintings as well.
