Overview

This tour will take you to know the country part of the city of Arequipa with its beautiful landscapes of the green valley of Sabancaya and Chili River that runs through the city of Arequipa. Throughout your jorney you might even be able to see some of the volcanoes that surround the city.

On your tour you will visit the district of Paucarpata, which translated into Quechua means “Andén Florido” (flowery platform), here you will be able to appreciate the Inca platforms that still remain until our times as active witnesses of the economic activity of those times.

One of the many interesting attractions in Arequipa is the “Molino de Sabandía”, an old wheat flour mill that supplied the city dwellers with this food. Since its construction in 1621 this mill has been restored more effectively by the initiative of private entities so that today we can enjoy the beautiful land where it is located, today even the old mechanism of the mill was restored so that we can see how it worked.

Very close to the slopes of the Chili river is the Goyeneche Palace, an old colonial mansion built in Sillar stone in the 17th century that includes a church in its structure and which was initially the home of a wealthy family from the region, the Goyeneche family, and later the home of an archbishop of the same family.

The tour will continue to the Sachaca neighborhood and its old church dating from the 19th century, it is a small church but quite peculiar due to its asymmetric structure with a single bell tower.

To cross the Chili River from one place to another in the city you have to cross a very long iron bridge called “Puente Bolivar” designed by Gustave Eiffel, the same engineer who designed the famous Paris Tower.
